Moorebank Intermodal Precinct wins Project of the Year at Boomtown 2024

29 November 2024

The Moorebank Intermodal Precinct has been awarded the prestigious Project of the Year Award at the Western Sydney Leadership Dialogue’s annual Boomtown 2024 Property & Infrastructure Awards.

The award was presented by NSW Premier Chris Minns with more than 300 leaders from government, property, transport, infrastructure, and the Western Sydney community at the event.

National Intermodal, along with partners Qube and ESR, received the accolade for their work on the transformational freight and logistics precinct located in South West Sydney.

Additionally, the Moorebank Intermodal Precinct was honored with the Outstanding Freight & Commercial Project award, further recognising its excellence and transformative impact in the freight and logistics sector. This accolade highlights the precinct’s innovative approach to freight management, its significant contributions to reducing congestion and emissions, and its role in enhancing Australia’s supply chain resilience and efficiency.

The state-of-the-art facility significantly reduces congestion on Sydney’s roads by removing thousands of truck movements daily, lowering freight costs, and decreasing carbon emissions, contributing to a more sustainable future.

National Intermodal CEO James Baulderstone said the Moorebank Intermodal Precinct showcases the potential of Western Sydney to drive large-scale, transformative projects that enhance Australia’s global competitiveness.

“The Moorebank Intermodal Precinct is not just a project, it’s a vision brought to life by the hard work and dedication of our team and partners, and we are honoured to receive the Project of the Year Award at Boomtown 2024,” Mr Baulderstone said.

“This recognition is a testament to our commitment to work with our industry partners to create a world-class freight and logistics hub that is strategically located right here in Western Sydney.

“We’re proud to be at the forefront of transforming Australia’s supply chain by building efficient, resilient, and sustainable intermodal precincts. We’re excited to keep driving innovation and progress in the sector, creating a more connected future from Western Sydney to the rest of Australia.”

Western Sydney Leadership Dialogue CEO Adam Leto congratulated the project owners, saying Moorebank Intermodal is a great first step in transforming freight logistics in Australia.

“This project epitomises Greater Western Sydney’s global potential and puts it into practice,” Mr Leto said.  “With an import/export rail terminal in the east and an interstate rail terminal in the west of the precinct, Moorebank Intermodal plugs Western Sydney into the national freight network and will transform Australia’s supply chains.”
