National Intermodal is pleased to announce the release of its 2024 Annual Report alongside its inaugural Sustainability Report. These comprehensive documents outline our financial performance, strategic initiatives, and progress in building a solid foundation for a more sustainable future over the past year.

The 2024 Annual Report highlights a successful year for National Intermodal, showcasing several significant milestones. These achievements support our efforts to expand Australia’s network to create a more efficient, resilient, and sustainable supply chain.

Key Highlights from the Annual Report:

  • Financial Performance: National Intermodal delivered a profit after tax of $23 million (2023: $34 million), net assets of $872 million (2023: $802 million), and share capital of $947 million (2023: $900 million).
  • Sustainability Initiatives: National Intermodal ran its first community access EcoTour into Moorebank’s conservation areas, commenced reporting emissions as part of the APS Net Zero Initiative and became a proud member of Supply Nation.
  • Operational Milestones: Progress was made on intermodal precincts in Parkes, Ebenezer, and Beveridge, with plans for Beveridge proposing to deliver Australia’s largest and most sustainable intermodal precinct.

In addition to our financial success, we are particularly proud to present our first Sustainability Report, which reflects our ongoing commitment to sustainability as one of our three strategic priorities.

Highlights from the Sustainability Report:

  • Low Emission Freight Initiatives: National Intermodal is committed to reducing freight emissions, first by shifting more freight from road to rail, which produces significantly less emissions and particulate, but also by exploring the deployment of battery electric locomotives (BELs) for short-haul freight routes through densely populated areas.
  • Climate-Resilient, Sustainable Precincts: Assessing the feasibility of  of ‘true zero’ all-electric precincts is a key focus for our new precincts with learnings taken from  Moorebank Intermodal Precinct which currently features Australia’s largest industrial rooftop solar installation.
  • Community and Livability Efforts: National Intermodal is committed to investing in vibrant, livable communities by supporting diverse local employment initiatives and healthy biodiversity.

“We are proud to be at the forefront of transforming Australia’s freight infrastructure, ensuring a resilient and efficient supply chain that benefits all Australians,” James Baulderstone, CEO of National Intermodal said. “Our efforts are focused on creating a modern, sustainable intermodal network that not only drives down costs for Australian households and businesses but also supports the needs of future generations.

“As we tackle the challenges ahead, our focus on delivering independent, open-access terminals will foster competition, lower prices, and play a crucial role in reducing emissions within the logistics industry.”
